You love the word "Eco-chic". It's your new favorite word. You conveniently find ways to interject it in most of your sentences. It just seems so appropriate. You've noticed that the word is everywhere, so you don't feel weird or even slightly awkward when strangers roll their eyes at you because you know that this word is popular and very accepted, which means you are certain they must just have something in their eye. Or maybe their winking? Doesn't matter, you're in denial and you like it that way. You're stoked about Earth Day this year. You've designated it as "Eco-Chic Earth Day," by which you'll be aiming to set a record for how many times you can say the word back to back without puking, choking or getting slapped by friends, family or passersby. It should be fun. You're looking forward to it. To commemorate this mammoth feat, you've decided to celebrate Earth Day, the word "eco-chic", and how awesome you are in general by drinking copious amounts of biodynamic wine and consuming grass-fed burgers and free-range chicken while lounging in your new eco-friendly fashions purchased recently from local boutiques that carry sustainable threads. You're conscious, you're aware and you want to take your new found green obsession to the next level. Bravo! That said, you've decided to throw a sustainable house party for you and you're friends. You've installed a Swedish Separett Composting Toilet beforehand so you can save everyone's poop for good measure and composting purposes. You demand that all of your socially conscious upwardly mobile peeps (scuppies) exclaim that your poop-saving practices are considered "eco-chic." You serve dirt, rainwater and bird eggs. You're guests are shocked and appalled. You're friends tie you down and try to smack some non-green-sense into you. And that's when it hits you.....you've gone mad, and there's nothing eco-chic about that.

 **Find Eco-Friendly Fashions**
Where you can get what, Part II

Juniper Boutique - It might be located just slightly off the beaten path, but this Madrona boutique carries sustainable lines you can't find anywhere else. Juniper carries Portland's Anna Cohen, known for her ultra-chic designs that take into consideration all parts of the process from raw materials to end-of-life use, "organic pioneers" Stewart & Brown, 100% organic cotton tees by Loomstate, John Patrick Organic, the understated sophistication of Loyale, former architecture student Carol Young Undesigned's urban nomadic apparel, and Souchi

FashionEthic - A local website where the eco-conscious fashionista can shop without feeling bad about herself. FashionEthic offers high-quality forward-thinking fashions from designers that follow some sort of "ethical compass." Find lines made of organic and sustainable materials, recycled or repurposed goods, most of whom follow fair labor and fair trade practices. Find eco-chic lines by Edun, the eco-friendly clothing made in Canada by Passenger Pig eon, eco-apparel by Sublet Clothing, Portland's Emily Katz, eco-chic local designer Lizzie Parker, and other Fashionably Responsible designers.

Kimmi Clothes - This local designer uses recycled fabrics, utilizes fabric that has already been created, or, she salvages materials that have been cast away to otherwise end up in landfills. She also finds and uses "local" fabrics that don't have to be shipped in, therefore cutting back on fuel usage. These sustainable practices allow her to decrease her carbon footprint while creating these eco-conscious fashions. Good work! Kimmi Clothes can be found at Frock Shop and Andaluz.

                    **Sustainable Party Tips**
How to Plan a Stylish Event

Party with a Purpose. If you're not planning on holding your eco-friendly event at home, think about one of Seattle's sustainable-chic event spaces such as Sodo Park, the Sole Repair Shop or Ravishing Radish.

Reusable Tableware. Forego plastic plates and flatware for reusable tableware. If you don't have any good china laying around, hire Totally Tabletops to set the table-scape for you.

Green Drinks. Try an organic Vodka like Square One or Salmon-Safe or organic wine like Badger Mountain or biodynamic wine like Bonterra that takes organic to the next level.

Green Gifts. Decorate your space with small plants or potted flowers. Offer to guests as a parting gift.

Organic Nosh. Choose an organic caterer like Organic to Go or pick up reheatable organic fare from Eat Local, who supports our local farmers.

Green Grooves. Bored with your Ipod? Hire Bamboo Beats to provide organic beats for your party. What makes them Green? A host of things including use of MP3's and vinyl instead of CD's, driving from gig to gig in a hybrid, purchasing green power and more. Great idea or really great branding?
